EQUITY
Districts in our county are separated along socioeconomic lines. Disparities are becoming increasingly apparent through the programs offered to students living in different regions of our community.Education is the time-tested gateway to upward mobility and global competitiveness. Let us pledge to fund a more equitable school system where resources are offered to all. One’s zip code should never determine the opportunities they have access to.
Ensuring Equity in MCR Funding Allocation:
-
Increasing fundraisers that stretch across district lines to create more equity between resources and opportunities offered. For example, we need to be able to raise money for programs such as the athletics and the arts within our whole MCPS community instead of within individual districts.
-
Relieving mental stress through increased access to therapy and counseling at school through allocating additional funding to this sector.
-
Ensuring funding for specific training needs for counselors, administrators and educators are met.
-
Creating events through MCR for all middle and high schoolers which connect younger students with older students to encourage guidance and mentorship.
-
Working within MCR to bring more voices into the fight to strengthen the MCPS Antiracist System Audit to institutionalize zero tolerance for racist behavior in the school system through MCR.
-
Collaborating with students to reform the reporting system for incidents of discrimination to ensure a safe and inclusive learning environment through the platform MCR provides.
-
Addressing gaps and inequities in funding, recruitment, and resources for athletic teams in middle and high schools around the county through wider collaboration and discourse.
-
Having more conversations on inclusiveness in MCR. This results in a greater awareness of implicit racial and cultural biases, and promotes improved understanding of diverse perspectives.
-
Increasing student participation in MCR anti-racism initiatives.
-
Collaborating with students to create student-led educator training and professional development on anti-racism and discrimination through the MCR platform.
-
Increasing county-wide, cross-district fundraising efforts for both athletics and arts programs.
